This wonderful Japanese art and its use has been declining decade after decade during the last century, due to the great demand that exists today for plastic bags and gift wrap.
Recovering it as an iconic element of the Zero Waste movement globally, it is slowly being used again.
The furoshiki (風呂敷) is a traditional square fabric from Japan that is used to wrap and transport all kinds of objects, clothes, gifts, bottles, books... Anything can be wrapped in a furoshiki.
It began to be used in the Muromachi period (1392-1573), in traditional baths, so as not to confuse or mix clothes. In this way, they used the furoshiki and the clothing was left on it. Over time, its use spread and it began to be used by merchants to protect their merchandise or gifts.
The furoshiki can be made of different fabrics, our favorites always being the natural ones: cotton, linen, silk...
Our Furoshiki models manufactured in the Canary Islands are Made with 100% Natural Cotton fabric , soft, free of dyes and toxic.
